Driving a Green and Resilient Recovery for Ukraine

Bringing together researchers, investors and entrepreneurs, the event highlighted how the UK and Ukraine are working together to support Ukraine’s energy security and economic recovery.

Speeches from senior representatives, including Minister Doughty, emphasised the role of InnovateUkraine in helping Ukraine rebuild sustainably. The UK’s support is not just about recovery; it is about ensuring Ukraine can build back in the greenest, most forward-thinking way possible. InnovateUkraine: Projects with Real Impact

Several projects from the first round of InnovateUkraine funding were showcased at the event, including:

• OMM Microgrid: A renewable microgrid that uses AI technology to maintain critical energy supply during power outages.
• S3RoU: A project turning war-damaged rubble into low-carbon construction materials to support sustainable rebuilding.
• METTLE: Providing mobile backup power to a damaged children’s hospital in Ukraine using repurposed electric vehicle batteries.
• Geothermal Ukraine: Unlocking the country’s geothermal energy potential by making exploration safer and commercially viable.
• AIRFUSE: Developing a low-cost, non-toxic energy storage solution that can be produced locally without reliance on critical minerals.

These projects demonstrate the strength of UK-Ukraine collaboration, highlighting innovation and practical solutions that support energy resilience and sustainability.

A Commitment to the Future

The British ambassador to Ukraine, Martin Harris, reaffirmed the UK’s commitment, saying:

“I am proud that the UK is further increasing its funding to the Ukrainian energy sector. This latest contribution underpins our commitments under the 100-Year Partnership, signed by the Prime Minister and President Zelenskyy in January.[…] These projects, led jointly by British and Ukrainian businesses, universities and civil society, will help both our countries develop clean and sustainable energy solutions for the future. […] InnovateUkraine is a showcase for the forward-looking partnership between our countries. The UK is standing shoulder- to -shoulder with Ukraine for the next century.”
