The scale of damage to Ukraine’s built environment continues to grow, with hundreds of thousands of homes and public buildings destroyed or severely damaged. Reconstruction is now one of the country’s most complex and pressing challenges.
One project supported through InnovateUkraine, S3RoU, is testing an innovative recycling process that transforms rubble from damaged buildings into usable concrete materials. By combining advanced separation technology with low-carbon construction methods, the pilot is assessing the technical, economic and environmental viability of a decentralised approach to rebuilding, reducing costs, emissions and reliance on imported materials.
